Operation Safe Driver Week is July 13 to 19: What You Need to Know

July 13 through July 19 is Operation Safe Driver Week 2025, an initiative by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA).  During this week, law enforcement agencies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will increase patrols and focus on identifying and addressing unsafe driving behaviors by both commercial and passenger vehicle drivers. Operation Safe Driver Week aims to improve road safety through increased enforcement and educational outreach. 

THE KEY AREAS OF FOCUS

Reckless, Careless, Dangerous Driving – This includes behaviors like speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, and other actions that demonstrate a disregard for safety. 

Traffic Violations – Law enforcement will be looking for violations such as improper lane changes, failure to obey traffic control devices, and lack of seatbelt use. 

Commercial Motor Vehicles – Special attention will be given to CMV drivers due to the potential for serious accidents. 

WHAT TO EXPECT

Increased Traffic Enforcement you should notice an increase presence of law enforcement, inspections, and highway patrol.

Warnings and Citations – Law enforcement has been advised to issue citations to drivers engaging in unsafe behaviors.

Educational Outreach – Your employer should has been instructed to promote safer driving habits. 

HOW TO PREPARE

Review Safe Driving Practices – Review and reinforce safe driving habits, including speed limits, following distances, lane discipline, and distraction-free driving. 

Ensure Compliance – Ensure that your vehicle is in good working order and that all required documentation is up to date. 

Be Aware of Your Surroundings – Pay close attention to your surroundings and other drivers, especially in high-risk environments.
